Project Description: New Construction

Mussman Architects PA provided full design and engineering for an expansion of this Arts focused charter school in San Antonio, Texas. As the name suggests, a primary goal with this addition was to create a central core for the campus including classrooms, outdoor collaboration areas (gathering space) as well as indoor common areas to support project-based learning. The design solution utilizes the specific site context and topographic features to gracefully weave together circulation patterns, outdoor gathering places, and buildings that all interact harmoniously. The 27,000 sqft building addition includes classrooms that will open up (via sectional doors) to bring the outdoors in and are organized with flexibility in mind. Core common areas are filled with natural light via skylights and light wells. Students will have views of the building systems by exposing ductwork, structure, IT and electrical systems to promote learning opportunities. Every space, wall, and exterior area was thought of as an opportunity to learn.
